In this era, we are living in a world that’s run by technology. Because of that, our primary means of communication are through messaging apps and a group chat like RumbleTalk. This has become both an advantage and a disadvantage, why?

During online chats, you cannot actually see the person that you’re talking to. So, there’s a greater chance of encountering trolls or dangerous people in general.

How can you avoid this scenario? In this article, I’ll be sharing with you how you can limit users to ensure a safe environment for your audience.

Why the need to limit users?

  • The first scenario is when you have too many users in a group chat. The chat can be very busy and hectic. So, you cannot see who’s going in and out of the chat room.
  • The second one is that there might be potential harassers or trolls in the group chat. This can make your users uncomfortable, and can be a cause of conflict.

How to avoid these scenarios

No one wants to tolerate harassment and bullying in the chat. Therefore, I propose you the following safety measures:

  1. Appoint an administrator or two to moderate the group chat when you’re not around. This can be an individual or member that you trust.
  2. Limit the users per group chat. This is a safer way for chat owners to ensure the safety of the members.

Safety measures you can do to protect your chat

The RumbleTalk chat platform has a user per room option so you can limit the number of users going in and out of a chat room. You may follow the instructions below:

  1. Sign up at RumbleTalk.
  2. On your admin panel, click Settings > Users.
  3. In the Users tab, you will see the current registered users to your chat. For the first prevention measure, appoint an admin.
  4. For that, click Add new user. Type in the admin username and password. Then, choose the user role as admin for rooms or admin with global access.

NOTE: However, if you use rooms, you will be prompted to choose what specific room the admin can only access.

The administrator should be a trusted person, an individual who creates chat rules and implements them, and lastly, one that respects your decisions.

For the second preventive measure, you can limit the users per group chat. Just follow the same steps in choosing an admin, but now, we’re creating a non-admin user.

  1. When you’re choosing the user role, choose User (Rooms).
  2. Select the room access that the user will have. You can choose one or two chat rooms that the user can access.

This is truly helpful in controlling your chat rooms and see who’s creating a ruckus in each one. It will also limit the number of users who can enter that specific chat room. Therefore, it will be easier to moderate the chat.

Here’s an example of how it would look like.

Limit users if you don’t have enough manpower

Since not all websites and chat owners can invest in admins, this is a great alternative in keeping the chat safe. This option not only limits users but also helps protect their privacy.

Chat platforms like RumbleTalk never tolerate bullying or harassment in the chat. Your users would want this, too. Want to know more about the users per room feature? You can read this article: New Feature: Users Per Room
