An online job fair makes use of software such as live streaming and video conferencing platforms. Therefore, job seekers who are confident in face-to-face interaction may seek these out. On the other hand, job seekers who are not confident in face-to-face meetings may opt for job fairs that only use group chat platforms.

Because of the platform’s nature, they will be able to showcase their strengths in a more comfortable setting. For example, in a group chat, they can just send in their resume, answer some interview questions, and wait for a company’s email.

As a business owner, how can you make use of a chat platform if you plan on holding a job fair?

What are virtual job fairs?

A virtual job fair, or online job fair, is a scheduled online event that allows employers and job seekers to meet in a virtual venue. Companies use group chats, live streaming platforms, webcasts, and email to exchange information regarding job openings. They also use it for interviewing interested job seekers.

After logging into a virtual job fair, job seekers can enter various rooms, which houses different employers participating in the fair. When a job seeker enters a room, the employer can start the conversation. There may be others who entered the virtual room first and maybe amid a conversation. Chat rooms like RumbleTalk allow simultaneous private chats so employers take advantage of that. This is where job seekers may ask about job openings, details about the company, etc.

How you can set up a virtual job fair

In setting up a job fair, you will need the following: a website, a live streaming platform, and a group chat platform.

All of these will work together to make your virtual fair successful. In this article, we will be focusing solely on the role of group chat rooms in virtual fairs.

Once you have a website and live streaming platform, follow these steps to set up your group chat.

  1. Sign up at RumbleTalk.
  2. Create a chat room. This depends on how many employers will be present at your event. Change the name of each chat room depending on the company’s name.
  3. On the admin panel, click Embed. Copy and paste the generated code to your website.

Now that you’ve set up the chat rooms for the employers, it’s time to learn about how you can use the platform fully.

Entering the chat room

An employer will host a chat room where job seekers and a company representative (most likely from HR) can talk. Job seekers can enter multiple chat rooms at once. The representatives will be ready to converse once a job seeker enters the chat.

For privacy and confidentiality, job seekers can choose to enter their username. Private chatting is also available so that multiple conversations can happen in one chat room.

Private chat with an employer

As the host, an employer can invite a job seeker to a private chat. Once a private chat has been initiated, conversations can be continued there. In a private chat, employers can call job seekers who are up for an interview or if they want to better understand the job seeker’s profile. Job seekers can also send in their resumes in the private chat.

A job seeker can also initiate a private chat with the representative by clicking his/her username. However, if the representative is on an Away status, a job seeker won’t be able to initiate a private chat.

Following up after the job fair

As the fair comes to a close, employers can contact the job seekers who they found suitable for the job positions. Some employers may give out their contact details. However, most employers reach out to job seekers through email or their given contact numbers. This is found in their respective resumes.
